Why your AirPods don’t work

When the Apple AirPods first arrived, It was really tempting. They claimed to work like the earbuds that came with your phone, but without any wires.

Yet, they still don’t work as well as the wired earbuds. You’ve probably noticed that the connection usually cut out or the audio lag behind a video you’re watching a video on your phone. Here is why:

Wi-Fi co-existence

Bluetooth and Wi-Fi have shared the same 2.4GHz frequency spectrum for a long time, which can cause the radio signals to interfere with each other. This is especially noticeable when you are using your AirPods while your Wi-Fi is on your phone at the same time. The solution may be to turn off Wi-Fi on your phone while using your AirPods, or if you don’t want to turn off your Wi-Fi, then move closer to the Wi-Fi access point. This may make the Wi-Fi connection stronger, which will make it easier for the phone to time-share between your AirPods and Wi-Fi.

Cross-body Interference

Bluetooth signals do not go through your body very well. This is because Bluetooth’s radio frequency is blocked by water, and the human body is made up of mostly water. If you keep your cell phone in your pocket and your AirPods in your opposite ear, then it is possible the connection may be weak and causing your AirPods not to function properly.

What then should we use?

Still, the Apple AirPods is incredible despite these issues because the music sounds great with them and then the concept of making you feel like you’re living in the future where we use most of our devices are used wirelessly is awesome. Cellphone industries are working to boost Bluetooth signals in our mobile devices to reduce these issues. So, I think, perhaps, we should give them more time.
